Cellular One of Northeast Pennsylvania acquired a cellular license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2000 to operate in Wayne and Pike Counties of Pennsylvania. At that time, Cellular One began operations with 8 cell sites and an analog cellular voice network.
By September 2005, Cellular One had launched its new CDMA digital cellular voice network as an overlay to the analog network and added short text messaging to its array of voice services. In addition, the Cellular One network had expanded to 23 cell sites. That same year, Cellular One was pleased to be among the first ten carriers in the nation, of its size, to begin offering Enhanced 911 Phase II services which assist emergency responders with location information.
In 2007, Cellular One launched 1xRTT data services that included mobile web, picture messaging, and downloadable games and ringtones. In 2010, Cellular One was the first carrier to launch 3G EVDO data services in Wayne and Pike County, featuring data speeds comparable to DSL and ten times faster than 1x or Edge.
